Web standards

“Every time we create a piece of the Web, we contribute to the common information space that is the Web. We can build it up, or we can add weight that will tear it apart. The choice belongs to us; the consequences belong to everyone.”
The Web Standards Project

edafe.de and standards

This website is written in eXtensible HyperText Markup Language (XHTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The aim is to make this site accessible to as many people as possible, each choosing from an increasingly diverse array of devices with which to surf the World Wide Web.

So where’s the Problem?

XHTML and CSS were devised by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and support the creation of even the most complex layouts. Obsolete browsers, built before XHTML and CSS were fully developed, either lack support for these technologies or fail to implement them properly.

What should you do about this?

It’s simple. Find out whether your browser supports important standards such as XHTML and CSS. If it doesn’t, consider upgrading to a browser that honours the standards of the W3C.
