What is the problem with YouTube?

edafe.de provides access to YouTube content, which has the following implications for your personal data:

YouTube is operated by Google, which in turn is a subsidiary of Alphabet. All of these companies are located in the United States (US). The GDPR imposes restrictions on cross-border transfers of personal data to recipients outside the EEA. As of July 2023, the Data Privacy Framework (DPF) is supposed to safeguard transfers of personal data from the EU to companies in the US.

edafe.de employs the WordPress plugin WP YouTube Lyte to embed YouTube videos which are stored on Google’s infrastructure. The plugin caches YouTube preview images locally, therby preventing YouTube content from loading automatically.

Google’s content can only be loaded after you have clicked on the button ‘I Understand’. By requesting to play the video, you consent to the collection of personal data as a result of using their service.
